Allegation of research misconduct

EDUCASIA: Jurnal Pendidikan, Pengajaran, dan Pembelajaran is committed to maintaining academic integrity, transparency, and ethical standards throughout the research and publication process. This policy is based on the principles and best practices recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in the publication process are expected to uphold the highest standards of research integrity and publication ethics.

1. Definition of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct refers to violations of ethical standards in the conduct, reporting, review, or publication of research. Such violations include, but are not limited to:

  • Plagiarism: Using another person's ideas, words, data, findings, or other intellectual contributions without proper acknowledgment or citation.

  • Data fabrication: Inventing data, research results, observations, or findings that were not actually obtained through the research process.

  • Data falsification: Manipulating research materials, procedures, data, or results in a way that misrepresents the actual research findings.

  • Duplicate or redundant publication: Submitting or publishing the same or substantially similar manuscript in more than one journal without appropriate disclosure or justification.

  • Simultaneous submission: Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals for consideration at the same time.

  • Citation manipulation: Including irrelevant citations, excessive self-citations, or inappropriate references to artificially increase citation counts or influence citation metrics.

  • Authorship misconduct: Inappropriately including or excluding authors, claiming authorship without a substantial contribution, or misrepresenting the contributions of individuals involved in the research.

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest: Failing to disclose financial, professional, or personal relationships that could improperly influence the research or its interpretation.

  • Unethical research practices: Conducting research without appropriate ethical approval or informed consent when required, or violating the rights, privacy, and welfare of research participants.

Honest errors, methodological limitations, and legitimate differences in scholarly interpretation do not automatically constitute research misconduct. Allegations must be assessed based on relevant evidence and the circumstances of each case.

2. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to EDUCASIA are responsible for ensuring that their work is original, accurate, and ethically conducted. All sources, including ideas, data, quotations, figures, tables, and other materials obtained from previous publications, must be appropriately acknowledged and cited. Authors must not fabricate or falsify research data, manipulate findings, or present another person's work as their own. Manuscripts must not have been previously published or be under consideration by another journal at the same time. Authors are also required to disclose relevant conflicts of interest, obtain necessary research permissions and ethical approvals, and ensure that all listed authors have made appropriate contributions to the manuscript.

3. Reporting Allegations of Research Misconduct

Any individual who suspects research misconduct in a manuscript submitted to or published by EDUCASIA may report the allegation to the Editor-in-Chief. Reports should be submitted in writing and accompanied by relevant information or supporting evidence, such as overlapping publications, questionable data, inappropriate citations, or other indications of possible misconduct. Anonymous reports may be considered when sufficient verifiable evidence is available. All allegations will be assessed carefully, fairly, and objectively, without presuming that misconduct has occurred before the evidence has been evaluated.

4. Procedures for Handling Allegations

Upon receiving an allegation, the editorial team will conduct a preliminary assessment to determine whether the concern falls within the scope of research or publication misconduct and whether further investigation is warranted. If the allegation appears credible, the corresponding author will be contacted and given a reasonable opportunity to respond and provide relevant explanations or supporting documentation. Where necessary, the editorial team may consult independent experts, reviewers, the publisher, or the authors' affiliated institutions to clarify the matter. Formal investigations into suspected research misconduct may be referred to the relevant institution, while EDUCASIA will assess the implications for the manuscript or published article in accordance with applicable publication ethics guidance.

5. Commitment to Publication Ethics

EDUCASIA is committed to preserving the integrity and reliability of the scholarly record. The editorial board will respond to credible allegations of research misconduct in accordance with COPE guidance and other applicable ethical standards. Authors, reviewers, editors, and research institutions are encouraged to cooperate in resolving concerns and correcting the scholarly record when necessary. Through these measures, EDUCASIA seeks to promote responsible research practices, prevent publication misconduct, and maintain the trust of the academic community.
